CONCEPT REFINEMENT AND FURTHER ACQUAINTANCE

 Project 3: CONCEPT REFINEMENT

I got lots of good feedback from my fellow classmates, and it showed me that while detail and fleshed out concepts are very good direction, Simpler concepts carry more freedom in the different ways that they can come together.

The original concept before refinement.

Finished concept, after refinement.

I ended up having to smooth out the back of the Buddha head and the bottom, as they were flattened with holes in them for mounting.

Adding texture and bumps to the dirt for more realistic quality.

Creating overgrown roots hang over the side of the pot.

The original face, ears and hair of the imported Buddha model were low definition as a result of low triangle count.

After sculpting and smoothing in order to create cleaner planes and more clarity/definition.

The tree I used for the concept was pretty small and plain.

This tree seems to have more personality.

One thing I wish I could have done better was the shading, but I found out that importing custom shaders is both difficult and they come out low quality often.

All in all I had a good time learning the tools and some more of the specific functions within mesh mixer, the sculpting especially was a very rewarding process.
