REMIX CULTURE/MASHUPS FOR BETTER CONCEPT GENERATION

Mashup: Concept Generation

In this project the class explored what remix culture is and how it is made up. Remix Culture is when a society encourages derivative work that riff off of  past works, or combine elements of different works together to create a new work or concept. Although originally just an idea, Remix Culture has become a huge part of modern society. Examples of  where Remix Culture can be observed include social media, consumer technology, the fashion industry and most definitely the entertainment industry.

Using 3D models that were built by other creators, I created 10 concepts or scenes that were derived from the objects I used.

CONCEPTS:

For this concept I used a rock, a sword and a Gazebo model provided by creators on Thingiverse. My intention was to create the sword in the stone from king Arthur.

I used a jar, skull and pedestal made by other creators for this concept. I was trying to build off of the idea of a shrunken head and how it is usually stored.
This creation used a dead tree and a Buddha's head container from Thingiverse. My idea with this one was to create a treasure or an ancient artifact, the dead tree's purpose is to give the viewer an understanding of the artifact's use and also how long it had been around for.
This scene uses a king and a queen model from Thingiverse. The scene itself is intended to be a metaphor for a dramatic end.
This is my 1 creature idea. (Creature and water city provided by Thingiverse.com). I was trying to create a sense of perspective and immanent doom with this image.
Coins, cup and die provided by Thingiverse. This concept shows a game of dice suspended in time moments after an amazing roll.
Coffin and Gravestone from Thingiverse. This scene is of a solitary grave site/ memorial.

This creation uses a volcano, person and rock outcropping from Thingiverse. The purpose of this scene was to communicate depth, or the distance the journeyer has to travel to arrive at their destination.

This ancient tomb scene uses sphynx statues and a pyramid from thingiverse that come together to create one cohesive thing.

Using a Plane, Explosion and Battleship from Thingiverse, this scene is of a ship being attacked and damaged by an opposing fighter plane.

All in all a fun project that showed me the absolute range of things that can be created using CAD.
